NMSBVI Pre-Employment Transition Services (ETS) is honored to welcome to New Mexico, Amy Wilson of the Safety Positive Foundation. For the past decade, Amy has been involved in instructing and developing selfdefense programs specifically designed for people who are blind and visually impaired. As a woman with a visual
impairment, Amy brings a unique perspective and experience to the arena of personal safety for our Pre-ETS students.
Independence is a key skill that empowers us to navigate the streets of life, and to take advantage of the opportunities the world has to offer. In order to do this safely, however, it is critical that we are aware of our surroundings, understand the potential hazards of a given situation, and have the skills to respond effectively when things go wrong. Whether using social media, surfing the internet, making a purchase at a store, or traveling in a public
place, there is always the risk that we could fall victim to the ill-intentions of others. Join us for a day-long training that teaches personal safety skills to students who are blind or visually impaired. Students will learn about situational awareness, the foundations of personal safety, self-advocacy, and protection.
Students are responsible for arranging transportation to the Albuquerque ECP campus for the northern event or to Alamogordo Residential Campus for the southern event.

Futures Pre-Employment Transition Services workshops are presented by NMSBVI in partnership with the New Mexico Commission for the Blind pursuant to Governmental Services Agreement 23-606-2110-00004-00.
